Good Shepherd Child Care is a non-profit ministry program of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church providing Christian child care. The Center is licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services.
Enrollment is open to all children from 6 weeks through 12 years of age, regardless of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, creed, handicap (unless unable to adequately accommodate), national origin or ancestry. Priority will be given to siblings of children currently enrolled in the program, families seeking full-time enrollment, children of employees, and children of members of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Philosophy
We believe that each child is a precious gift from God with unique and special qualities. Our major emphasis at Good Shepherd Child Care is to help children discover their God-given qualities while sharing His love and forgiveness with them. We believe that children learn best in an interactive, "hands-on" environment where they can discover the world around them at their own level of development. Since children need to feel secure before they will begin to explore their environment, we will give them love and respect, and help them learn how to interact with adults and peers. The activities we provide will give them many opportunities to develop their cognitive, social, emotional, physical and spiritual growth.
We feel that play is the most important aspect of young children's lives...it is essential to their well-being and development. New concepts, new skills and new understanding come to children through play. In play, children learn to formulate and organize ideas and to become more flexible in problem solving. Children's attention spans begin to lengthen when they play. Their imaginations can take them anywhere they want to go. Their senses can help them to see God's creation in fascinating new ways. During play, children learn to communicate their thoughts, feelings and needs to others. Children's "work" is play...that is how they prepare for the future.
The Center has an "open door" philosophy. We welcome and encourage parents to visit their children during the day when work schedules permit. Parents who would like to join their child for a meal are asked to let the staff know a day in advance so arrangements can be made with the kitchen staff.
Hours of Operation
The hours of operation are 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, twelve months a year.
The Center will be closed New Year's Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. When New Year's Day, the Fourth of July, or Christmas fall on a weekend, the Center will close either the Friday before or the Monday after the holiday.
