Purpose
The Good Shepherd Columbarium Prayer Garden provides a special place on the church property where ashes of departed loved ones may rest in peace and dignity within the shadow of the church. We are continuing our church’s mission, by offering a final resting place for the members of our community.
What Is A Columbarium? A columbarium is a structure provided for the placement of ashes of the deceased, and at Good Shepherd, this is an exterior marble structure. Ashes are placed in urns or containers, which are then placed in the niches.
Purchase of Niches Niches are available when a purchase agreement has been completed and the financial arrangements have been made. When a niche is paid in full, an engraved name plate will be placed on it; this is included in the purchase cost. Small vases can be purchased from Good Shepherd to place on the niche. Additional information may be found in the rules and regulations handout available at Good Shepherd.
Urns or Containers It is the responsibility of the purchaser to provide an urn or container for the ashes of the departed. All urns or containers must be of dimensions to fit within the available niches.
Rites and Services All Christian rites and services relating to internment in the columbarium shall be subject to the discretion of, and conducted by, the pastor(s) of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or their designates.
Authority and Ownership The use and care of the Columbarium Prayer Garden are overseen by the Columbarium Prayer Garden Committee, and in turn the Church Council of Good Shepherd. The purchase of a niche extends only the niche, not the columbarium or any church property. There is a fund for Endowed Care, which means Good Shepherd will always maintain the Columbarium Prayer Garden.
Fees and Charges Fees and charges are set by the Columbarium Prayer Garden Committee and may be subject to change. Additional information may be found in the rules and regulations handout available at Good Shepherd. |
